Faith The Vampire Slayer

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What does Five By Five mean?
Five by five is lingo used by radio operators, the military and pilots about how good/bad a radio signal is, in regards to volume and clarity, on a scale of 1 to 5 (with 5 being the best). So, five by five, means the best possible. The phrase is used in movies like Aliens and Contact. It's a pop culture reference that Buffy & the Scoobies are oblivious to, showing Faith's isolation from the group.

Is there going to be a Faith spinoff?
After Eliza signed on for a Fox pilot, it's in doubt that there will be a Faith spinoff, at least for now.

This is what has been said about the possibility of a Faith spinoff by Joss, Eliza & others:

Eliza Dushku (on 2/15/03 at the PBP Party) E! Online: "We don't know what's goin' on...I'm trying to figure out a lot of things in my own life. Do I want to go to college, do I want to do a show? It's been kind of a trip, but there's nothing definite for sure right now."

Chris Buchanan (ME President) 2/7/03 Scifi Wire: "I believe that's something that's being bounced around, along with other things, too... I know there've been discussions. We're kind of sitting on our hands until UPN and Fox figure out what they want to do."

Chris Buchanan (ME President) 1/15/03 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: "Joss has certainly had conversations with her {Eliza} that I'm not privy to, so I couldn't say what they talked about," Buchanan said. "It's something we've talked about internally, how cool it would be to have a Faith show 'cause we love Eliza, but we have no idea if she's interested, no idea if UPN is interested."

Joss Whedon TV Guide 10/25/02. When asked about a Faith spinoff : "That possibility exists," confirms Whedon, adding cryptically, "It's one of many."

Eliza Dushku TV Guide 8/29/00. When asked if she would replace SMG. "It's such a hard job and I could never see myself having the patience to do that kind of a show. I mean, Sarah's there all the time working harder than anybody else. I kind of have ADD [Attention Deficit Disorder]."

The Age Debate
Nothing has been said on the show about how old Faith is. The most official information available is in the Angel The Casefiles Vol 1 (published in 2002 and written by Nancy Holder, Jeff Mariotte and Maryelizabeth Hart) that states that Faith's date of birth is December 14,1980.

The Faith, Hope & Trick script (written by David Greenwalt) describes Faith as "18-ish".

Even Buffy & Faith can't agree on who's older since in Faith, Hope & Trick Buffy calls Faith her my bestest new little sister makes the scene. yet Faith says to Buffy in Graduation Day that Buffy is "all dressed up in big sister's clothes".

Exactly when or if Faith had to go through the Crucible (the Slayer's 18'th Birthday test) is unclear.

What does Faith have tattoed on her arm?
Faith's tattoo (on her right arm) is a tribal design, made from several commonly patterns found in tattoo parlours. Nothing has been said about the significance (if any) of Faith's tattoo.
